NAM Chapter Constitution and Bylaws

Each Maronite parish, mission or community is encouraged to form a local chapter of NAM (National Apostolate of Maronites Chapter). The NAM Chapter is a division of NAM which is the official lay organization of the Maronite church in the United States of America.

The purpose of the NAM Chapter is to promote NAM programs and Maronite traditions and to encourage participation in all aspects of the life of the local parish/mission/community in coordination, cooperation and approval of the local pastor/Administrator.

The NAM Chapter objectives are as follows:
  • To foster harmony among the Maronites of the local parish/mission/community.
  • To further the spiritual life of its members.
  • To accomplish NAM's mission at the local level.
  • To render financial assistance in promoting objectives and goals of the parish/mission/community.
  • To serve as a channel of information and education to the Maronite parish/mission community.
  • To foster and encourage activities that will recognize the contributions of our religious and cultural heritage to our country and people.
  • To foster and encourage dialogue, involvement and unity with the parent organization.
  • To plan activities throughout the parish that focus on career and professional development or will serve the community at large, such as a legal aid clinic, health care fair, or networking events that will stimulate interest especially in the younger generation.
  • All local members of NAM are members of the local chapter. An annual enrollment of members shall be conducted, although new members may be accepted at any time if they fulfill the NAM requirements.

The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice-President, Events Coordinator and Secretary. The officers shall be members in good standing in NAM and in the parish/mission/ community and shall be elected by the chapter and approved by the pastor or appointed by the pastor. Officers shall serve two-year terms and are eligible for re-election for one additional term.

If a vacancy occurs in the office of the President, the Vice President will fill the unexpired term. If the Vice President cannot fill the unexpired term, an election shall be held in coordination with the pastor to elect a new president to fill the unexpired term or the pastor will appoint a president. If a vacancy occurs in any other chapter office, the president may appoint a replacement in coordination with the pastor.

In order to be nominated for an office, a person must be at least eighteen years old, a registered parishioner, in good standing in NAM and in the parish/mission/ community and present at the election.

The President shall convoke the Chapter meetings after consulting with the pastor in setting dates, times and places. The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees and shall appoint chairpersons of committees, and shall stimulate the members of the community in order to promote the objectives.

If the Chapter has a treasury the Chapter shall have a treasurer. The Treasurer shall account for the receipt and disbursement of all monies of the Chapter and supervise deposits and withdrawals of all monies of the Chapter treasury. The Treasurer shall do an annual report. Funds in excess of ordinary operating expenses should be given to the parish. A bank account, if deemed essential, shall use the EIN of the parish, if it exists, and shall require that the pastor be sole signatory and the Treasurer and the Chapter's President be a joint signatory on the same account, as deemed feasible by the financial institution. Any issues must be reported immediately to the NAM Board financial committee chairperson and/or the NAM Board President for resolution.

The President and another officer will normally represent the Chapter at regional and national meetings. If these officers are unable to attend, the pastor will appoint other delegates to represent the Chapter.

The President, or delegate should be prepared to report on Chapter activities and issues at regional and national meetings.

The President, or delegate should agree and set the frequency of the meetings for the Chapter. Monthly meetings are encouraged but no less than quarterly meetings.

In case of dissolution, all funds or other properties belonging to the Chapter shall immediately become the property of the parish / mission/ community.
